April 2010. Watched TV: Saw StepBrothers (Adam McKay, 2008). Stupid French title Frangins malgré eux. Written by Adam McKay and Will Ferrell. With Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly. Those three men have done better things--mind you it's not hard to do better than that. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against a little bit of scatological humor now and then. The Farrelly brothers make very vulgar movies, with extremely dubious humor, and I can find them amusing, at least on occasions. But this tripe? It's just a random succession of crass, gross, sick, disgusting, vulgar, cheap, below-the-belt, dirty, infantile "jokes." Nothing to salvage. Who laughs at this?! Even Will Ferrell who's not renowned for his subtlety sinks particularly low in this. Did you need money to fix your roofs, Mary Steenburgen and Richard Jenkins?
