Watched DVD: Ryan's Daughter

September 4, 2010. R and I watched DVD: Ryan's Daughter (David Lean, 1970). Won two Oscars: John Mills as retarded Michael (excellent) and Freddie Young for best cinematography. Sarah Miles was nominated. I have a theory about the 1960s / 1970s British trio Susannah York, Sarah Miles and Julie Christie (Alex you know what I mean). I saw this in Rabat when it came out and was moved beyond description. Christopher Jones, his scar, the Irish cliffs... I don't care what the critics said, to me Ryan's Daughter is as important as Doctor Zhivago, Lawrence of Arabia and The Bridge on the River Kwai. Saw those Irish cliffs for real in August for the first time, and it made me feel like getting this DVD. More than 200 minutes and you never get bored once! "Funny" to see that all the actors are English, American or Australian, putting on Irish accents...
